People are often judged by their appearance, but their real personality is far more important. A teenager may look fashionable and wear modern clothes, but at the same time be very shy and modest. Another person may look ordinary but be extremely confident and energetic. Literature gives us many examples of heroes whose character is stronger than their looks. For instance, a character may be described as tall, with dark hair and serious eyes, but the story shows his kindness, sense of humour and ability to support others. Psychologists say that appearance influences first impressions, yet true friendship is always based on trust, honesty and mutual respect. Although it is not easy to understand a person at first sight, sooner or later people show their real nature. That is why we should never judge people only by their looks.
